Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Chris B — 04 May 2012
Going from the more grounded and straightforward spy films to "Goldfinger" the series takes a turn to the more campy feel that would be used for many many more Bond films. This is where we first see Q in a more significant role and with many more gadgets and equipment for Bond to use in his missions.
While these may be "campy" and strange at times, they are certainly fun to see in action. Q and Bond's interactions are priceless and still bring a smile to my face and when he explains the use of said gadgets we know they will be used later in the film certainly.
This tone makes the films all the more fun and interesting, to me at least, and really set the tone and feel of both serious and lighthearted and even yes "campy" at times. This is another Bond film that is in the top-tier and we delve head first into the new style and meet some interesting and memorable characters such as Pussy Galore and Oddjob to name a few.
This is a great and very entertaining film and is one of the best in the series!
