Review of Goldfinger (1964) by Mark S — 11 Jul 2017
Sean Connery at his best; a great theme song; great villains in Goldfinger and his manservant Oddjob; one of the best Bond girls in Honor Blackman's Pussy Galore, who gives as good as she gets; some great dialogue; iconic imagery.
..simply put this is not only one of the better Bond films (a good case can be made for it being the best) but an influential cinematic classic in its own right. Director Guy Hamilton took Bond on a step further than predecessor Terence Young had, but also opened the door for some of the more gimmicky aspects of the series.
That can be forgiven here though, as the good humour, puns, Aston Martins, elaborate set-pieces et al work perfectly in this instance and provide for an action movie masterpiece.
