Review of Golden Door (2006) by Alyssa N — 16 Oct 2008
Beautiful and symbolic Italian drama about a family's immigration experience to Ellis Island. The characters may be underdeveloped, but they still come across as interesting and likable. This movie's made especially memorable by the unique cinematography and imagery, which includes, yes, human-sized vegetables.
I also think it was brilliant to leave this open-ended, since it was never known ahead of time whether immigrants would find the success they dreamed of or have all their hopes dashed. It could go either way here, but why don't you see it and judge for yourself?
