Review of Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002) by William S — 06 Nov 2008
Probably the second best in the Mellenium edition, but my favorite. This one, keeps it simple. You got two monsters, the Big G verus his mechanical counterpart built from the bones of the original godzilla that terrorized tokyo in 1954.
This Godzilla flick actually gets you involved in the human story, and creates stakes higher than godzilla just leveling tokyo. However, Godzilla's rampage is more than just a gimmick in this. It's a real threat.
Mechagodzilla is treated with the true spirit of Mecha. He isn't just a machine, he has a spirit of his own, that his pilot must directly relate to. Mecha G and the pilot go through parallel story archs and change over the movie.
The FX, sets and camera work are good. A must see for old and new godzilla fans.
