Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Shevi S — 03 Jun 2010
I loved this movie. I love history, can handle long slow movies and i'm a Christian, thus this one was a good find for me. Also, this was the first and last movie i've ever seen with an intermission at the movie theater.
My biggest gripe is once again with the critics. I've heard bad acting, and too much melodrama. I'll give them their bad acting props due to some of the secondary characters but the main performance by Stephen Lang as Stonewall Jackson was exemplary and was a shining moment for a long time overlooked actor.
I'll also agree with too much melodrama but for some reason my admiration for Stephen Lang's Jackson and my interest in the strange documentary style telling of how the battles played out kept my intrigue and won a place as one of my dark horse favorites!
