Review of Gods and Generals (2003) by Mk B — 14 Nov 2007
This movie was horrible. It was too poetic, utterly anticlimactic, and clearly too long. Action scenes were preceded by 20 minute speeches, while rewarding the viewer only 5 minutes of action. As a matter of fact this movie was mostly boring speeches.
It's also confederate trash. It portrays the confederacy as virtuous and ideal, while taking every chance to portray the union as bumbling, corrupt, and treacherous. The theme music even changes when portraying the union army into something similar to the stars wars imperial march played in scenes with darth vader.
It also shows as docile, and enjoying their slavery. Apparently slavery wasn't so bad, and the north shouldn't have forced their ideals on the south, because slavery would have disappeared on its own anything.
Finally this movie is a totally biased rendition of Shaara's unbiased, and excellent novel. This movie is garbage.
