Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Toby E — 16 Jul 2009

Technically this movie is almost perfect, the timing is good. But is the story and its lack of excitement what makes this esperimental movie a little boring...ok stop...Im not saying its boring, what Im saying is that people might get bored if theyre not in the mood.

I was amused by pornstar Sasha Grey´s performance: she can actually act, she is perfect in this movie and I can clearly see why Soderbergh cast her (not because there is much explicit sex, in fact there is only mild) but because in the movie she plays someone who is being someone else, her character is a girl who because of her job needs to be whatever her clients want, so when we get to see the real Chelsea (that is: with her boyfriend or being interviewd) we dont see her face as she acts and by that the director is not taking any chance.

The Girlfriend Experience highlights what marketing-sex can be and how it can affect a relationship with society. SEX, the most human primitive and natural act, can be a powerful source of wealth, but hey! that has an expensive price!
