Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Amanda W — 24 Feb 2012

Pornstar Sasha Grey stars as a call girl in Stephen Soderbergh's the Girlfriend Experience. I surprisingly found Grey's performance to be the best thing about the movie, hell maybe the only good thing. Not just because she's hot though lol. She's not that bad of an actress for a Pornstar haha. She does what she has to do, I don't think you could say she just has a blank look on her face through-out. In some scenes you can say that but when her character has to argue with her boyfriend about spending the weekend with a client, I think she handles the scene well. When she has to show emotion; she does.

I wouldn't say the movie is 4 star material though like Roger Ebert thought. I think the Soderbergh that directed Traffic was no where to be found with this movie. I felt that it jumped all over the place. It jumps from scenes of her with clients, to her with her boyfriend, to him at the gym training people, to even talk about the 2009 Presidential debate. To me it felt unfocused direction wise. Other than that, Grey at least nails the part of a young woman who's career is in the way of the one real relationship with a man that she has. I am not saying that she should be in movies acting alongside Meryl Streep though lol.
