Review of Girlfriend Experience (2008) by Sabra E — 09 Mar 2010
Slightly than I though it would be, considering the time it took to shoot (just a few weeks) & 1.3 million budget, GE was a solid & impressive film.
I like the way GE doesn't exaggerate over-romanticize New York as its setting, though the NY setting was fairly necessary considering the theme of movie being about capitalism affecting big business people during the peaks of an economic crisis.
Grey's cool, unemotional presence as an escort, whether natural or calculated, was right on as well to counter-balance the stressed out drama of everyone else around her, worried about money, while her character collects thousands in untaxed cash a week for her brand of companionship, which most often does not include actual sex.
The idea that sex should be exchanged for monetary or intimate gain versus free or frivolous sex being a waste is also nice to investigate.
