Review of Girl, Interrupted (1999) by Kat L — 07 Aug 2010
An enjoyable film, but knowing it was based on the writers experiences of her commitment in a psychiatric facility reinforces my concern that the movie portrays Ryders character's illness as being somewhat vague.
It definitely glamorises psychiatric facilities...and that is comparing it to modern day institutions..whereas they were almost definitely much harsher places during the 60s,when the movie is set.
Overall, some solid performances, but a rather weak plot.I would be interested to read the novel on which this flick is based.I imagine it would be substantially different.
