Review of Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning (2004) by Stuart P — 06 Jul 2008
GINGER SNAPS BACK is not so much the story of werewolves in the Canadian wilderness as it is the thrilling saga of Katharine Isabelle not being able to close her upper lip. I've witnessed her talents and teeth in several movies now, and while she's enjoyable in what she does she needs to learn to make a complete seal with her mouth if she's ever going to enjoy such simple things as straws or not having bugs in her grill when she rides on a bicycle.
But, yeah. Werewolves.
So, these two sisters are muckin' about the Canadian wilderness where werewolves roam and women-haters build high wooden walls. They end up behind these walls, werewolves attack, and Ginger gets bit by this ugly excuse of a werewolf which is actually supposed to be the lil' Dutch boy from paint can fame.
There's some cool effects, and everyone aside from Katherine is so unknown and nondescript that one actually gets the feeling of watching a movie instead of a bunch of big name actors playing make-believe on a movie set. For a cheap flick it was pretty engaging, and though Katherine never actually turned into a werewolf, she did get kinda wolfy and was responsible for some carnage.
And the leech-test was a nice touch.
In all, not a bad werewolf venture.
