Review of Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning (2004) by Ferdi A — 03 Jan 2015
Not as good as the fantastic original or the sequel for that matter. The story is interesting and the performances by Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins were solid. I liked the amount of blood and gore, the camerawork and the cinematography.
The soundtrack was effective. My main problems with this 'prequel' are the lack of genuine scares, the slow beginning and most of all that this movie serves wrong as a prequel and works more as a standalone film with the original castmembers or a 'remake' to the original Ginger Snaps in someway.
As a prequel there is zero connection with how 'The Beginning' ends and how the original will pick up after the events of the prequel. Makes no sense no matter how you looked at it and feels dumb and lazy on the writers' part.
It cannot be seen as a part of the Ginger Snaps Trilogy in my eyes. I didn't hate it but this 'prequel' card it played was unnecessary and confusing to the viewer. I still liked they sticked with the dark humor.
