Review of Gimme Shelter (2013) by Sam T — 20 Jun 2010
"It sets example to the rest of America as to how one can behave in large gatherings." -Mick Jagger. Gimme Shelter clearly depicts the stoned spiritual freedom in rock and roll culture in 1969-1970.
Professionally shot footage of the New York and Altamont concerts captures the Stones in their prime, an energetic Mick Jagger leading the way. The brutality of the Hell's Angels security force is also revealed and comes to head with the stabbing of Meredith Hunter, captured on film.
The structure of the film was also effective, interspersing the concert footage with the band viewing the footage itself and other happenings behind the scenes regarding the Altamont show.
