Review of Gilda (1946) by Ben H — 22 Feb 2012
Beautifully shot film that takes a while to get going, but when the story shows off its twists the whole thing becomes greater than the sum of its parts, and it feels sort of grubby. Probably Hayworth's best performance, it has a queer and psychoanalytic subtext and more innuendo than you could shake a stick at.
Ford is great but Macready is fantastically cold and sinister. Get through the first 30mins and you'll be rewarded...
