Review of Gilda (1946) by Timothy J — 22 Feb 2013
Basically a showcase for Rita Hayworth who was the sex symbol of the 1940's. (Her image was often used on Allied Bombers over Germany) Some of the scenes that Rita was in would have been very Risqué at the time.
The famous scene where she tosses her hair back and the hint at striptease. I am sure the film was enjoyed by servicemen overseas. As far as the story goes, it's Ok. Obviously inspired by Casablanca.
Only in this film the Casino is in Buenos Aires. And there are Nazi sympathizers. But this movie was essentially an opportunity for men of the era to watch Rita Hayworth for two hours.
