Review of Giant (1956) by Anthony V — 23 Jun 2010
Overblown melodrama, about a wealthy Texas family, that spans several decades and 3 and 1/2 hours. The actors give mostly solid performances but the script is all over the place with drawn out direction.
The story buckles under its own weight and the message becomes muddeled due the large amounts of padding. James Dean is good but under utilized becoming nothing more than a sniveling drunk by the end of the film.
