Review of Giant (1956) by Tim M — 19 Nov 2010
A Giant film about a giant family in a giant state. Still, it is small compared to "giant" films like Gone With the Wind or Ben-Hur. Well acted - especially James Dean - and well shot there is nothing especially note-worthy about it.
Showing the changing of times (old ways versus new ways; family-owned work vs. company-owned; race boundaries vs. equality) but it is the comment on equality among the races since we are all humans that has the biggest impact.
It handles it's length and scope well through pacing that moves quickly so the audience never has to feel that it is dragging. A great story about life.
