Review of The Cakemaker (2017) by Tim M — 14 Dec 2018
I can't stop thinking about 'The Cakemaker', the debut feature of writer and director Ofir Raul Graizer. There is something about it that is so authentic. We all are subtly crazy and seek closure in our lives and that's what our two main characters, Tomas and Anat, played by Tim Kalkhof and Sarah Adler respectively, attempt to do albeit by unconventional means.
The best thing you can do with this Israeli and German foreign language feature is go see it without learning too much about it. It's on Netflix, where the movies lately have been hit or miss. It's subtle in everything it does.
Even the sensual scenes are done with class. It's filmed like a work of art. It's minimalist where it can be. I was captivated from go with the acting by our three leads (Zohar Shtrauss unmentioned above).
I've never seen them, but would welcome them back as quickly as possible. Definitely one of those films that will boomerang your brain the next day. Final Score: 7.8/10.
