Review of Giant (1956) by Jun K — 12 Aug 2011
Great film, which lasts longer than 3 hrs, but worth it. Giant, as simply explained by the name is an epic story covering decades of three love birds, who witness/participate the rise of Texas as the biggest oil state.
Although it covers vast amount of history in 3+hrs, it keeps the characters together. its development is amazing. it's very true to humanity. melodrama between three characters just itself is worth watching this film. performance is top notch, but gotta give to James Dean. the second best performance from James Dean, first being Rebel without cause. also the strongest/memorable character, kind like Gatsby.
I feel like I just watched the history of America. it covers racism, feminism, wealth n poverty, n pride n prejudice. same feeling I've had after Gone With The Wind, but in more gentle way. the characters don't get affected by the events dramatically, but slowly adapts while keeping its values.
I wish I could see this film in a theatre to appreciate the panoramic shots of old Texas dusty plains. it's def worth watching it over n over.
