Review of Gia (1998) by Matt L — 02 Feb 2009
Angelina Jolie's performance in this film is nothing short of magnetic, which is a shame considering she gets saddled with a film that relies once again too much on biopic cliches, running her character through the gamut of drug addiction and unstable relationships and lost mentors and self-destruction before finally signaling off.
Too bad. There's a kernel of a good film in here toward the end as Gia contracts AIDS, an unknown-at-the-time disease, but it's not quite a timely message and one that gets packaged next to the standard famous person biopic tropes.
