Review of Gia (1998) by Sarabeth R — 03 Aug 2013
WIth all of my deepest respect for Angelina Jolie, I never really liked her as an actress in dramas. Gia marks probably her only nonaction film that I truly give her credit for. Gia Carangi was a rare beauty dying way too early from AIDS, probably having caught the HIV infection when using drugs.
When Jolie played her, she was herself a wild girl, which probably helped her a lot to deliver this great performance. Apart from Jolie's performance and Gia's fascinating persona, the film is nothing special.
Yet, well worth watching.
