Review of Ghoulies (1985) by Josh H — 24 Oct 2010
Pretty lame attempt at satanic possession, Ghoulies is about as comedic as it is ghoulish. From the lousy acting to the green eyes and little gremlins that appear everywhere, this film was just made to sell, obviously.
College student and friend Rebecca occupy an inherited mansion. Jonathan soon wants to stop college soon finds out he has satanic powers over a bunch of creepy gremlins.
As sick or stupid as it seems at first glance, this is just plain visual scare. Lots of candles, wierd markings, old mansion furniture. A near sweaty bed scene ensues only to have a gremlin appear. At the time, this probably impressed somebody since so many sequels were made.
If you can dispense with the supposed horror aspirations of this movie, it is a campy delight. Suggest watching this near Halloween and after ingesting lots of beer. It might be funny and a bit scarry too.
