Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Alexteo07 — 30 Mar 2017
Contrary to what the reviewer says, the film IS not ""respectful and successful as an adaptation"" NOR does it strive to ""capture the same intellectual conversation about identity, ownership and consent that are presented in the source material."".
Or if it does strive, it utterly fails.
The dialogues are full of non-sense mumbo jumbo about ghosts and shells, lol.
Apart from the beginning, the plot differs widely from the original, and not in a good way. It's like they tried to make the philosophy behind the original very accessible to a wide audience, and missed the point completely. I can't figure why they tried to do that, because the concept of the original anime is not hard to grasp.
It's stunning from a visual standpoint, but that's about it. An empty shell....
