Review of Ghost in the Shell (2017) by Mat W — 22 Apr 2017
Not too bad. I understand the talk about whitewashing but I think The Great Wall, 47 Ronin and The Last Samurai shouldbe more under the spotlight. I have not had the chance to read the manga but the cast look a lot like the characters from the 90's anime. Shame about Scarlet's dodgy wig.
The story was a bit of a let down, but again not as much as the critics would have you believe; some of the scenes from the 90's anime are visually recreated but the transfer to CGI seems to have lost a bit of the soul (kinda like the Watchmen movie). But mostly it was an alright movie.
The biggest disappointment with the film is that the turned what could have been a feature-length episode of Black Mirror into a Robocop story (without the satire).
