Review of Get Carter (1971) by Matt D — 23 Jul 2008
Michael Caine exudes cool in this hard-hitting and stylish landmark British crime thriller. Painting a dark picture of Enland - especially Newcastle - with a gritty portrayal of corruption, pornography and gangland life, this marked the start of a more cynical style of film-making after the sugar-coated 60s.
Probably Michael Caine's finest hour.
