Review of Get Carter (1971) by David S — 09 Mar 2009
Better remembered for the promotional photo of Michael Caine holding a shotgun than as a very good film. Best British film ever? Somebody said that and somebody is wrong. I didn't buy how the plot twist effects Caine's character (or how the plot twist is found out in the first place). The bad guy gangsters tended to drift together in my mind, meaning I had vague notions of who was who and cared not at all. What the film has going for it is the unbelievably bleak setting of Newcastle.
If your interested in gritty crime dramas from this period, check out Point Blank with Lee Marvin instead.
