Mike Hodges' iconic adaptation suffers from numerous flaws and a remarkably slow-pace, yet its action sequences are exquisitely shot and Michael Caine oozes cool as the deadly, uncompromising Jack Carter.
Loaded with relentless violence, moments of cutthroat comedy and quite possibly Caine's greatest performance of all time, this cold British classic is essential viewing for movie lovers everywhere.
Dark, gritty and tremendously entertaining.
