Review of Gerald's Game (2017) by Jess_Hill — 12 Mar 2018
A film that is disturbing in its evicerating commentary on marriage, and deeply unsettling as a stomach-churning psychological thriller, this is a claustrophobic tale superbly performed under what must have been excruciating filming conditions.
With supernatural, psychological, and physical horror elements, not to mention the far deeper and painfully unnerving truth central to the plot, the storyline plays out in a manner which builds an almost unbearable tension with every scene.
Carefully paced to elicit maximum unease, this is a film which is an exceptional example of the genre that is best followed up with a comedy and chamomile tea. 8.
