Review of Gerald's Game (2017) by Marc K — 11 Dec 2017
******DO NOT WATCH TRAILER BEFORE VIEWING MOVIE********.
A shining example of what Netflix-backed movies can achieve. A constantly evolving thriller that doubles as the one of the best Stephen King adaptions ever made.
After a movie that relied on terrific performances, the ending felt so cheap. It would have been much more impactful if the story was left more opened-ended instead of attempting to wrap it up neatly in five minutes. Canned narration over the last five minutes just screams "I dunno how to end this.".
Imagine if Jessie was just finished telling her story to a kid and then she glances over at the TV where she sees a video of the sentencing of the moonlight man or sees his picture in the paper. Confronting him breaks the illusion.
All performances were A+ , and I have to say this movie unsettled me in a way that no horror movie previous has achieved. Was not expecting that at all.
