Review of Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953) by Eric R — 14 Jul 2011
Dorthy and Lorelei are two showgirls with completely different philosophies on finding a man. Lorelei is in love with money, and just wants to find a man who can let her own anything she desires. Dorothy on the other hand is just looking for a man which she is attracted too physically.
Lorelei is getting married to a millionaire and her and Dorthy take a boat trip to Paris where she will be wed. It turns out on the boat with them is a private detective who has been hired by Lorelei's soon to be husbands father to make sure Lorelei isnt just another gold-digger.
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is a witty, fun comedy/musical that features some great dialogue and situations that arise. The film really celebrates the female form and pretty much admits then women can own men when and if they want too.
Mariyln Monroe is rather hysterical as the gold digger airhead, and its very entertaining to watch Marilyn Monroe and Janie Russell play off each other as two long time friends. The musical numbers are solid but I could do without them.
