Review of Gentleman's Agreement (1947) by Peiyu L — 20 Mar 2007
Such an amazing and powerful film for its time. Examines the unspoken anti-semitism throughout much of America... and the people who just remain silent about it. This film took a particular storyline a direction I saw from the beginning as realistic.
.. but did not think they would actually play it out in such a way. I was pleasently surprised and glad this film chose to examine this issue in such a personal way. I still find it appalling that certain hotels and such were "restricted" as it would be put, for certain groups of people.
But what I found even more saddening, was the simple fact that there are still plenty of prejudiced people in America to this day. I would like to think we as a country have made some progress against the evil of anti-semitism, but wonder if we still have a ways to go.
A highly recommended film.
