Review of Gender Wars (2015) by Joseph D — 23 Dec 2017
This isn't the comedy you're looking for. All the trailers promoted this as a comedy about the 1973 match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs but the real focus is about the affair Billie Jean King had with Marilyn Barnett. The performances are strong but where it falls apart is when the movie decides to not make anyone the bad guy, so Billie Jean Kings affair is never truly addressed and Bobby Riggs gambling is treated for comic relief. I wouldn't have minded it the film could decide what it wanted to be a comedy or a drama.
See it or Skip It.
I'd skip it and watch a documentary about it instead.
