Review of Gattaca (1997) by Mike B — 25 Jul 2012
I have watched this movie a total of three times with the last time being 5 years ago. If I do a review from a fresher watch, I am sure to find flaws with it but for now I will write a review of the feel I got from watching this movie.
In a not so distant future, parents choose to have children with a combination of the best genetic abilities of themselves. At a time like this one child is born whose genetic makeup makes him physically and intellectually inferior. Doomed with a future decided by the nation's governing body to serve as a menial laborer, the child still dreams of going to the outer space. The movie unfolds with the storu of the protagonist trying to achieve what he has been banned from even trying. With a sepia-like yellow hue, the gloomy atmosphere of the storyline and the depression era costumes, the film gives the impression of a suspense-drama. It is a slow paced tragedy of many characters except for the message of sheer will of the human race.
