Review of Gattaca (1997) by Roger R — 19 Jul 2013
In 1997 this film was about a future dystopia. It won't be long before this kind of thing becomes reality. I actually had to live a variation on this crap. The history of the world is of power and its abuse versus the freedom and aspirations of the individual.
Any technological advance will always be used by the state to reduce the freedom of the individual. There are many themes and subthemes to this masterpiece, but perhaps the strongest is that whilst investigating 'serious' crime the authorities can persecute minor rule, regulation or "guideline" infringements which really harm no body, and of course they love it.
