Review of Gaslight (1944) by K D — 10 Dec 2008
This film only got better as it went along and the incredible acting allows you to connect with each character, be it bad or good. Nothing can quite come close to describing how well Ingrid Bergman portrayed the confused, dazed and frightened wife of a demeaning, controlling husband, played brilliantly as well, by Charles Boyer.
There were some scenes where you just wanted to jump into the movie and lay one down on Charles Boyer because he hit his marks so well. The story was very unique as well, and the gaslight really played into the movie quite nicely, at one point I kept screaming, "The gas went back up, the gas went back up!" Although it was just slightly disturbing at times to see how Bergman's character was treated, this movie really has everything it needs to stay a unique, classic thriller for quite some time.
