Review of Gaslight (1944) by Masorad ( — 29 Jan 2010
A bit more backstory would've helped to convince us of Paula's (Bergman) inability to see through suave, Gallic Boyer's mindfucking, but still the progressive knotting-into of the plot is convincing.
The sets are claustrophobic, Bergman's eyes are ofttimes caged-animal wild, Lansbury's lower-middle class accent perfect here for the character, Cukor has the camera egg on the eye. This is a filmed clinched fist.
