Review of Gaslight (1944) by Catherine T — 22 Jul 2013
A classic film noir (despite not having the traditional noir setting), Gaslight centres on Paula Alquist (Bergman) who falls in love with a charismatic man (Boyer) whom she subsequently marries. Her husband proceeds then to play mind games with her in order to make her believe that she is going mad.
A highlight is a 17-year-old Angela Landsbury in her first film role as the sassy new housemaid Nancy, who may or may not be playing an intentional part in the husband's scheme.
