Review of Gangs of New York (2002) by Margarita S — 26 May 2015
This is one of those movies that blows hot and cold for me. On the one hand, I thought it was quite epic in scope - scenery, costumes, big names. On the other hand, it also felt quite contrived - the historically interesting part of the movie ended up reduced to a simple tale of revenge.
Daniel Day Lewis' performance is the thread that held it together for me.
