Good story but have always felt it was an overrated movie. The acting is sincere, the cinematography is quite good but the story just never sparked my attention like I hoped it would. This is my third viewing, once in 1977, again in 1992 and now, and felt the same about it each viewing.
It vividly shows Indian life but it was too slowly paced and the story is too vague. I just don?t feel it is one of Jean Renoir?s best efforts.
