Review of Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999) by Chris H — 24 Mar 2012

With impressive special effects that stand up well almost over 10 years later, Gamera 3 isn't just the best in the triology: It's one of the best monster films PERIOD.

This is the perfect example of how to write a trilogy. Gamera has a great character arc that's capped off brilliantly in this film: What happens to the people Gamera accidentally kills when he's defending Japan?

While the villain in this film isn't nearly as big and bad as the ones in Gamera 2, Iris is a much more personal evil. It's a great combo of big action and emotional weight.

I can't recommend this trilogy enough, especially if you're into monster movies. And the trilogy is a total steal--only $12 for all 3 films on Amazon!
