Review of Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris (1999) by Mark E — 29 Aug 2007
Everything in this movie is perfect. The story, the acting, and most importantly the spfx. Kaneko took 3 years after Gamera 2 to make this one and the quality shows. The story is the centerpiece here, with action taking a backseat.
Gamera only appears twice, but both appearances are amazing and full of death and carnage. The subsequent entries in the Godzilla franchise (even Kaneko's own entry, GMK) failed to live up to this masterpiece.
Godzilla may be King of the Monsters, but if there's any other kaiju who can seriously fight for his crown it would be Gamera thanks to this movie. My personal favorite in the series.
