My Review.
This movie is the holy crap scale of awesome and bad-ass,and just go insane action for any beginner who appreciates Kajjui movies or any Kajui fan in general. Before I talk about the last film in the Gamera trilogy though,I'm going to talk about the first two. The first film introduced Gamera as the guardian of the universe protecting us from Gyaos the shadow of darkness, while a biologist named Mayumi was studying the gyaos and tried to help the military capture them, they escaped and laid eggs, but eventually Gamera destroyed most of them. The first was very light-hear-ted in tone. The second film, was a year later after the events of the first film, were a meteor shower appeared and brought with it some electrical problems and bugs. Midori Honami finds Asagi to help her and combine the efforts with Gamera to save the universe from the Legion. The second film was darker in tone.
But in the final film of the Gamera trilogy,a girl named Ayana who see's Gamera as the enemy for killing her parents finds an egg in a small cave along with a necklace. The egg hatches in to a small monster she names Iris, she helps it mutate so that it can become strong and large enough to have their revenge on Gamera. Nagamine and Asagi reunite when the Gyaos return, but when they discover of another orb the look for Ayana. Once they reach her they go to an airport in the city which is were the ultimate fight between Gamear and Iris begins.
This movie wasn't released in American theaters in 1999 which is the one and only big problem with this movie. I believe that if all three Gamera movies that the first one would of have been seen as a cool MIchael Bay esq picture, while the second would have audiences been like wow that was pretty amazing, and this one would have had audiences think that this is one of the greatest films ever made. Because I like the first two movies alot but I love this one. The story, the characters, the action, everything in this movie just screams one of the best action/adventure,Kaiju and fgiant monster film ever made in existence. This movie is the darkest of all three Gamera movies hands down though. I have had the most fun with this trilogy these past three days, then I had with the other two trilogys I just watched(Ip Man,Samurai). When Gamera was in the dome/airport and having his final battle, while I didn't like that wasn't as fast paced as the other two, it was still trons of bad-ass but at the same time hard to watch, cause this was the final movie and Iris was winning. I give Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris a five out of five.
