Review of Gamer (2009) by Julian T — 12 Dec 2011
This was a much much different movie than I was expecting. I was expecting a fairly straight forward mindless action movie, and while it delivered on the mindless and crazy violent action, it also gave you an intricate plot.
Not a terribly original story, (see 'The Running Man', 'Death Race', etc) but an interesting one none the less. The thing that really makes this an interesting watch is its visual style. Great cinematography and just a different feel than the prototypical action movie.
The script is decent, and the acting isn't bad. Michael C. Hall steals the show even though he's only in a very small portion of the movie. Lerman is good as well. Butler does what he's supposed to do, but displays no level of depth.
Plenty of flaws, as it is over the top violent, even for me. The story really hits a lull about halfway through, and the ending is quite cliche and mundane. I feel that while this movie is visually stunning and very entertaining, it could have been far more.
