Review of Game Night (2018) by Adam M — 06 Sep 2018
Much better than I was expecting it to be. Hilarious and surprisingly well directed. I love the tilt-shift photography at the beginning of the movie, making the suburbs look like pieces on a monopoly board.
The shot of the deadbolt being hit by the broom handle was also fascinating and excellent at building tension. It's also a movie with surprising amount of heart. Aside from some light ribbing and working out some marriage issues over the course of the film, Bateman and McAdams work together wonderfully to solve their problems.
They have great chemistry and I just love stories where existing couples are just a solid team, no need to break them up and get them back together for forced conflict. It's also one of my favourite things about the Conjuring films.
Game Night has a great script, great cast, and great direction. I really loved it.
