The movie masterfully depicts the grotesque and depressing atmosphere of war and those who are caught up in it while also including many deep intellectual dialogues that we do not really expect out of a WW2 movie.
In my opinion, the whole movie was as shocking and powerful like the Normandy landing scene of "Saving Private Ryan".
