Review of Funny Games (1997) by Zack B — 13 Sep 2011
Haneke's intriguing thriller about a family held captive in their lake house is minimalist in the best sense of the word. His philosophy of keeping the bulk of the violence off screen works in the films favour, partly because it prevents it from falling into the traps that many 'torture' films have in the past ten years or so, since Saw actually.
It works on the mind rather than the eyes and with a wryly humourous edge.
