Review of Fun with Dick and Jane (2005) by Jackie O — 04 Feb 2012
I liked how the movie pokes fun at how materialistic and greedy people can be both on a corporate level and on a household family level, but I wish they had taken it farther. It is light and mildly humorous but it would have been nice if it really pursued the social and political aspects of this film and strived for a deeper and more ironic comedy.
Without Jim Carrey this may not be worth the watch but he picks up the slack from everyone else and keeps the ship from sinking. Still his role is restrained and by his standards, it is too tame and does not let him do what he does best.
The rest of the cast is only average but they are not bad and they get the job done. There was some untapped potential to do more with this movie but it is overly simple and settles for mediocrity.
