Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Shawn-Ray M — 05 Oct 2009
Although the story has been told plenty of times before (Hostel, Haute Tension, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, House of 1000 Corpses, etc.) Xavier Gens' version is as sadistic as it is brutal. The first half of the movie is pretty tame and typical with nothing extraordinary to really drag you along but the last half is nothing short of shocking.
Witnessing the events that turn Yasmine from a young, shy, pregnant girl on the run to the insane killer she needs to be to survive is one of the few times where it's believable. Although nothing I'd really want to set out to watch again anytime soon, I found myself wrapped up in the madness that was happening.
