Review of Frontier(s) (2007) by Max J — 14 Jun 2010
Take one part Texas Chainsaw Massacre, one part The Hills Have Eyes, some Evil Dead gore and a bit of Hostel, mix it all together and you get Frontiers. Yeah, it is a mish mash of other, better movies (except that Hostel part.
I hated that movie) but it isn't totally unoriginal either. Set against the backdrop of riots in Paris after a right wing government is put in place, the movie WANTS to be a political parable, but it isn't so effective.
What IS effective is the violence. The NC-17 rating is well earned and I haven't seen someone covered in blood spray like that since Dead-Alive. The table saw scene is brutal, as is the axe scene, and the lead pipe scene, and the neck bite scene and.
..Well, you get the picture. If you are a gore fan, you can't go wrong. If you are looking for really good horror, you could do a lot worse. Now I gotta see Martyrs, Eden Lake and Them to finish the big 4 of the new wave.
