Review of From Here to Eternity (1953) by Jinfang N — 12 Dec 2007
This movie is much more than the 1950s version of Titanic. There is great love between man and woman, but that love seems less than people's love of other things. Both man love army more than the women they truly love.
Alma loves proper life more the man she truly love. I love the Sergent also, who doesn't? He is handsome, smart and also a good man. He helps nice people and at the same time dances well with evil.
I was touched by Prewitt's deep love of army, even though some people in the army treat him like dirt. I really feel sorry for Prewitt. There are many other Prewitts in the real life, they are nice and sincere, you respect their integrity.
But their hardheadness and non-smartness only lead to their own tragic life and often don't contribute much to the society even though they want to.
